[STATA] Importing Data

I often get asked what is the best way to import other types of data by my peers and friends-

The answer?

Use Stat/Transfer– It is the best. I know it is not cheap but it will save you lot of time. And time matters, especially if you need to graduate or get tenure-

I have used Stat/Transfer for many years-

Now, STATA has gotten better over the years in terms of importing, STATA 15 is pretty good. And I hear STATA 16 is awesome.

What happens if I don’t have Stat/Transfer and my STATA can’t import data well?

The best way from my experience is to convert to a CSV file or a TXT file and import it through STATA.

If you have trouble directly importing to STATA then first import to Excel then either import the XLS file or the CSV/TXT file.

From my experience, CSV/TXT file works the best.

Let me know if you have a better way-

We are all here to solve problems so we can save time and learn 😀

Thank You Jesus for STATA and research. I am thankful that I can do research.

Please give us more wisdom and discernment every day. Amen 😀
